Texas Tech Softball Welcomes Six New Transfers Under Coach Gerry Glasco

Updated: Jul 11

In an ambitious move to strengthen the Texas Tech Softball program, newly appointed head coach Gerry Glasco has successfully recruited six talented transfer players, marking a significant overhaul of the roster. The recruits include four officially signed players and two committed transfers, all set to bring a wealth of experience and talent to the Lady Raiders.

Leading the pack is Mihyia Davis, a standout player from Louisiana who earned the 2023 Sun Belt Conference Freshman of the Year and the 2024 Sun Belt Player of the Year honors. Davis, a slap-hit specialist with a .419 batting average, also earned third-team All-American status as a freshman, leading the nation with 52 stolen bases. Her career statistics include a .388 batting average, 90 hits, eight doubles, four triples, 24 RBI, and an impressive .978 fielding percentage.

Joining Davis from Louisiana are pitcher Chloe Riassetto, catcher Victoria Valdez, and infielder Lauren Allred. Riassetto boasts a solid record with a 2.21 ERA, 11-2 win-loss ratio, and 43 strikeouts over 91.1 innings pitched, earning her second-team All-Sun Belt recognition. Valdez, who played two seasons with the Ragin' Cajuns, has a career .277 batting average, 69 hits, 12 doubles, 12 home runs, and 52 RBI. She served as the primary catcher last season, finishing with a .985 fielding percentage on 265 chances. Allred, despite redshirting in 2024 due to injury, has an impressive track record, including a .375 batting average, 12 home runs, and 47 RBI in 2023. Her freshman season accolades include spots on the All-Sun Belt First Team, All-Louisiana First Team, and NFCA All-Central Region Second Team.

The Red Raiders have also finalized the signings of utility player Alana Johnson from Washington and outfielder Katie Lott from Oklahoma State. Johnson led the Huskies with 13 home runs, 40 RBI, and 97 total bases last season, holding a .301 career batting average and a .611 slugging percentage. Her accolades include selections to the All-Pac 12 Second Team and NFCA All-Pacific Region Third Team. Lott, known for her consistency, had a standout 2023 season with a .370 batting average and 12 RBI in 54 plate appearances. Despite limited action in 2024, Lott’s career batting average stands at .299.

These signings inject a new energy into the Texas Tech Softball program looking to get back to the post season for the first time since 2019. As Coach Glasco continues to shape his inaugural roster, the team's prospects for the upcoming season look promising. With a blend of seasoned players and fresh talent, the Red Raiders are gearing up for a competitive run, aiming to make a significant impact in the Big 12.
