Projected Region 1 Playoff Bracket for the Bushland Falcons

With last nights 62-12 victory over Dalhart the Bushland Falcons head into the bye week having wrapped up their regular season play. This is where we as fans all start to turn to scoreboard watching to see who will be our first round playoff opponent. Before we jump into this weeks projected playoff bracket I want to remind you that you can catch all of the Bushland Falcon and Lady Falcon playoff games streamed live from Bushland Falcon Media on the NFHS Network. A direct link to our broadcasts can be found here: Bushland Falcon NFHS Channel.

Now to get to the fun stuff. I want to preface these projections with the fact they are subject to change slightly as most of the teams still have 1 game left to play.

Let's start our explanation of the bracket below with District 2, home of the Falcons. The Falcons slot in Game 6 is set in stone as with our 9-1 (3-1 District) record we are locked into the 2 Seed. Due to their win over us last week Shallowater is locked into the #1 seed coming out of our district. The winner of next weeks Muleshoe vs Dalhart game will be the 3 seed and barring a River Road upset of Shallowater the loser will be the 4 seed so you could see those 2 playoff slots flip flop.

Our first round matchup will be with the 3 seed coming out of District 1. The main game we will be keeping our eyes on this Friday will be the Denver City vs Kermit game. With a win Denver City will lock in the District Championship and setup the Falcons with a 1st round matchup against Kermit. If Kermit wins it will set District 1 into a very likely 3 way tie atop the district (if Brownfield takes are of business against 0-9 Slaton) and that is where some interesting tie breaker scenarios come into play. I haven't found the exact formula District 1 uses for their tie breakers but all Texas districts use a points system. Some districts use a “positive points” system while some use a “positive and negative points” system with a cap somewhere typically between 12-18 points. For our playoff bracket projection we are projecting a Denver City win over Kermit.

Now for District 3 where currently Jim Ned sits a top the district with Iowa Park a game back setting up Friday nights Jim Ned vs Iowa Park game for the district championship. This is a game we will take interest in as it will directly impact who the Falcons could see in round 2. The bottom half of the district should see Vernon and Breckenridge hold firm in the 3 and 4 seeds barring an upset by Bowie or Clyde in their respective games on Friday night.

The final district in Region 1 is District 4 that is home to perennial powerhouse Brock along with Whitesboro, Paradise and Boyd. Brock has already locked up the #1 seed in District 4. With last nights Whitesboro victory over Paradise they are locked into the 2 seed and Paradise in the 3 seed. Boyd is virtually a lock for the 4 seed as it would take a Boyd loss to Peaster and a Pilot Point upset of Brock for Pilot Point to jump into that 4 seed slot. Which means Boyd should be awaiting the winner of the Jim Ned vs Iowa Park game from District 3 in the Game 5 matchup opposite of the Falcons.

We will drop another update next weekend with the official Region 1 bracket but it is fun to know the games to keep our eyes on this coming weekend. Below you will find the graphic of our current Region 1 projections. It's been a great season so far but we have no doubt the Falcons best football is still ahead of them this year!
