Michael Dever Flips Commitment to Texas Tech, Strengthening Red Raiders' 2025 Class

Updated: Jul 11

Joey McGuire and the Texas Tech football team received an Independence Day treat as Lubbock-Cooper receiver Michael Dever announced his decision to flip his commitment from Colorado State to the Red Raiders. The news, shared by Dever on social media Thursday, marks a significant addition to Texas Tech's 2025 recruiting class.

An Impressive Junior Season

Standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing 175 pounds, Dever made a significant impact during his junior year. He recorded 40 receptions on 50 targets, amassing 672 yards and scoring 11 touchdowns for the Lubbock-Cooper Pirates. His athletic prowess extends beyond the football field; Dever qualified for the Class 5A UIL state track & field meet in the high jump, where he placed sixth with a leap of 6 feet, 2 inches.

Filling a Void at Receiver

Dever's commitment comes at a crucial time for the Red Raiders, who recently saw Arlington's Isaiah Robertson flip his commitment to SMU. Dever's addition helps fill the void at receiver, bringing depth and talent to Texas Tech's 2025 class. Rated as a 3-star prospect by 247Sports.com, Dever is the No. 65 wide receiver in the country and the No. 62 player in Texas.

The Woodrow-to-Texas Tech Pipeline

Dever's decision continues the strong pipeline from Lubbock-Cooper to Texas Tech. Recent additions to the Red Raiders from Lubbock-Cooper include offensive linemen Kaden Carr and Holton Hendrix. The 2024 roster also features several players from area schools such as Coronado, Trinity Christian, and Abernathy, reinforcing Texas Tech's ability to attract local talent.

A Bright Future Ahead

Despite facing a setback with a broken collarbone, Dever received an offer from Texas Tech after impressive performances at a summer camp. He is focused on recovery and aims to be back in action for the 2024 season, eager to build a connection with his future position coach, Juice Johnson.

By the Numbers

  • 40 receptions for 672 yards and 11 touchdowns as a junior.

  • Personal record high jump of 6-foot-8.

State of Play

  • Dever is the 18th commitment in Texas Tech's 2025 class and the sixth wide receiver.

  • His commitment strengthens the Red Raiders' local recruiting efforts.

What’s Next

Michael Dever is concentrating on his recovery and preparation for showcasing his talents for Texas Tech. His decision to join the Red Raiders highlights the growing appeal of the Big 12 conference and the program's ability to attract local talent. With Dever's commitment, Texas Tech fans have much to look forward to in the upcoming seasons.
