Makayla Garcia Returns to Lubbock to Join Texas Tech Softball

Updated: Jul 30

Lubbock, TX: Garcia, who played her high school ball at Frenship High, made a significant impact during her time with the Patriots. She

hit .362 in 130 at-bats, starting in 47 of the 51 games she played, primarily as a designated player. Her impressive performance earned her the Lone Star Conference Freshman of the Year title, along with All-Lone Star Conference Second Team and All-Freshman Team honors. Garcia also played a key role in UT-Tyler's successful campaign, culminating in a victory at the DII Women’s College World Series, maintaining a top-five ranking for most of the season.

“We are thrilled to have Makayla become a Red Raider,” said Texas Tech head coach Gerry Glasco. “We love that she is a hometown athlete from Frenship and also an excellent student with an outstanding GPA. On top of that, she brings speed, athleticism, and infield defensive abilities that will bolster our middle infield depth. She is the model student-athlete with elite tools.”

Before her time at UT-Tyler, Garcia had an outstanding prep career at Frenship High School. She hit .535 and was a two-time TGCA All-State Team selection. Additionally, she earned First Team All-District Honors three times and was named District MVP in both 2022 and 2023. Garcia was also selected to the THSCA Super Elite Team and recognized for her academic achievements with Academic All-District honors.

Makayla Garcia's return to Lubbock marks an exciting new chapter for the Texas Tech softball program, bringing in a talented and dedicated player who has already achieved so much early in her career.
